Exporting food or agricultural products to the Netherlands requires compliance with strict EU regulations designed to ensure consumer safety.

Sub-topic

Exporting food or agricultural products to the Netherlands requires compliance with strict EU regulations designed to ensure consumer safety.

Key Regulations:

  • General Food Law (Regulation EC 178/2002): Sets the foundation for food safety in the EU.

  • Hygiene Package (Regulations EC 852–854/2004): Outlines hygiene and processing standards.

  • Maximum Residue Levels (MRL): Defines acceptable pesticide or contaminant      limits.
Labeling & Traceability: Products must display origin, ingredients, allergens, and best-before dates in Dutch or English.  Exporters must maintain traceability “from farm to fork.”
Certification: Exporters often need HACCP, GlobalG.A.P., or ISO 22000 certification to satisfy Dutch importers.

Compliance not only facilitates customs clearance but also builds trust with buyers in the Netherlands’ highly quality-conscious market.
